I love old neck ties. Not sure why? When I am browsing thrift stores and yard sales, I always stop to look at the "old man" ties...You know, the really wide ones from days long gone! I guess the Cranky Queen is a little nostalgic, because I can remember my Papaw Wroten wearing them.
Well, I decided to create something with some of the old neck ties that a gal pal had given to me a year or so ago. Most were those horrid "clip-on" ties...Anyway, I had torn out a tutorial page from Country Living Magazine~June 2010 on "A Fresh Take On The Classic Father's Gift" & decided to "try my hand" at making some. I created a nifty eyeglass case & not just for Dad! The ties are soft & won't scratch your lenses. Perfect for sunglasses too. It was an easy& fun project & a recycled craft.

I cut the manufacturer's tag from the underside & adhered it to the flap, along with a red button. Don't you just love the fleur-de-lis emblem? |
The Queen loves pasley patterns & this brown tie made the perfect case for my specs!
This Hanover St. tag was this tie's maker & it was made in the good old U.S.A.! |
This was one of my favorites..maybe because of the color...or the gold button with the cool tag...
Once upon a time, the Cranky King wore neck ties to work
(the picture above is about 13-14 years old!)
Today...he is a little more "casual"...either way...He has me "all tied up"!!!
STAY CALM & "TIE ONE ON"

Wow! I see neckties all the time at the thrift stores, now I can pick some up to alter, thanks for the tip oh Cranky One, Marilyn
ReplyDeleteOoh Love the Altered Ties! Neat Idea! Hugs,Tee
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! There are always good ties to be found at the thrift store and this is such a great way to repurpose them!! My 20 yr. old loves ties, especially retro looking ones (but not the big "old man" ones). I have found some pretty cool ties for him for pennies....I'm teaching him my thrifty ways :)
ReplyDeleteThis one is going in my to-do file. Thanks!!
Jane
Great idea! Love the glass cases, especially the first one!!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a royally cool idea Miss Tiff!! I've always had a soft spot in my cranky soul for old neckties too - probably because I saw how my great grandmother could work them into an amazing crazy quilt with her wonderful stitching...but I never thought of any other purpose for them. Thanks for the inspiration! (And with about 20 different pairs of specs laying around at a given time these days, some cases might be useful!!) Wishing you a week of blessings....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteGreat reuse idea! I had stashed away a box of about thirty of the old wide ties and decided to get rid of them, just a few years ago. I couldn't think of anything cool to make from them. NOW i wish I still had them. ;)
ReplyDeleteHope to see you at the party tomorrow night.

What a great way to give new life to old ties!
ReplyDeleteWELCOME, RED FRIENDS!
Come in, my dear friends, and be seated, please—
Oh, all of you reds are such a big tease!
Scarlet, you creep over cheeks in a blush;
Crimson, you’re always in such a big rush!
Cherry, you’re tasty and pleasant to see;
Carmine, you utterly satisfy me!
So come in, my friends, and be seated, please—
Of all the colors, I’d rather have these!

You are a smart and clever one. That is a super idea. Now a lot business places are letting their employees dress more casual. Much more comfortable and cooler.
ReplyDeleteThose are great!! You are so clever...Love them! Hope to find one in my Christmas Stocking this year:-)
ReplyDeleteI love old ties, too! Here are 2 more projects for you- I took the bottom 4 inches of a bunch of ties and sewed them to the hem of a jean skirt. The points make a scalloped hem. Then I took the straight narrow section of the ties and made a pillow top. Remember weaving strips of paper to make a placemat? Yep-just like grade school! It really turned out cute!
ReplyDeleteLove your idea. I too like mens ties for some reason and have collected a bag full. I hope to make at least one of these. I would love to see other ideas to use ties. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHa! Clever...my daughter needs a sunglass case....off to the sewing machine! :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute and crafty!!! Love the idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and the way you used the maker's tag on the outside. Mr. Cranky looks so much happier without his tie:-)
